Europe's First Ariane-1 Launch

Thirty years ago today — December 24, 1979 — the European Space Agency launched their first Ariane-1 from Kourou, French Guiana. The launch vehicle carried Technological Capsule-1 (CAT-1), an ESA launch test vehicle.

Good thing they got it launched, so they didn’t have to come in on Christmas to try it!
