Biography

This bio is short and sweet, but it gets the point across.

Gray Rinehart (image by Eternal Rose Photography)

Gray Rinehart is the "Slushmaster General" for Baen Books and a writer for the Industrial Extension Service at NC State University. He is also the Worship Leader at North Cary Baptist Church and in his "spare" time, he writes stories.

Gray retired from the United States Air Force in 2006 as a Lieutenant Colonel. During his career, he kept rocket propulsion research operations safe, fought rocket propellant fires as head of a Disaster Response Force, trained Air Force ROTC cadets, refurbished space launch facilities, "flew" Milstar satellites, drove trucks, processed nuclear command and control orders as an Emergency Actions officer, commanded the Air Force's largest satellite tracking station, protected militarily critical space technologies, and wrote speeches for top Air Force leaders. Gray served at Edwards Air Force Base, California; Air Force ROTC Detachment 770, Clemson University, South Carolina; Vandenberg Air Force Base, California; Falcon (now Schriever) Air Force Base, Colorado; Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska; Thule Air Base, Greenland; Alexandria, Virginia; and the Pentagon.

Gray was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and grew up mostly in Georgetown, South Carolina, where he graduated from Winyah High School. He earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina. He also holds an MS in Management from Golden Gate University, at the branch campus on Edwards Air Force Base, California.

Gray is married to the former Jill Marie Briggs of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. They have two children, Stephanie and Christopher, and make their home in North Carolina.
